Hurricane Ike Disaster Assistance



All donations we receive will go to directly help those in need.  Donations will be used to provide Direct Assistance to the vicitms of this disaster:  food, baby items, medicines, etc.

The following is a list of items most needed by The Society of St. Vincent de Paul to assist us in serving those individuals and families devastated by Hurricane IKE.

Please be kind in your donations by sending new, non expired foods in original packaging

FOOD ITEMS MOST NEEDED

Please choose plastic containers or canned items rather than glass. Also please remember our brothers and sisters are in without electricity be generous by supplying items with “pop top” lids and ready made foods.  

• Canned tuna or chicken, packed in water -
    Canned stews and pasta/meat
• Peanut Butter
• Canned Fruits and Dried Fruits
• Juice cans or boxes
• Canned vegetables
• Soups and Meals in a can
• Cereals, bagels, breads
• Granola bars, pop tarts, fruit roll ups
• Pasta, Spaghetti, Macaroni, Noodles,
    Rice and Beans
• Packaged Crackers, Cookies and Snacks
• Dry Milk
• Baby Foods and Formulas
• Ensure or Boost drinks
• Pet Foods 

For the safety of those we serve, we are unable to accept:  open packages, homemade food items, perishable foods, or items with “expired” dates.

When the victims of this hurricane left their homes, many remembered their important belongings such as photos, legal documents, and heirlooms.  But many forgot items that they need everyday.  The following is a list of items we are collecting for their comfort and dignity.

• Gift cards (grocery store, pharmacy stores, clothing stores, restaurants and motels)
• Battery operated Clocks, radios and flashlights
• Can Openers

NEW ITEMS NEEDED FOR CHILDREN:  
The items listed below will give comfort and cheer to the children affected by this disaster

• New Children’s Sleeping Bags (decorated with favorite
   cartoon images gives great comfort when scared.)           
• New Pillows

Re-Entry to your community: The places and things we took for granted or were used to having are no longer the same.  There are many things to consider:

• Shortages of utilities, gasoline, and food.
• Utilities are still not available in most areas or may not be stable with frequent power outages.
• Public transportation is limited.
• Health care may be limited.
• Police, fire and emergency medical services may be limited.
• There are not as many Day Care Centers available.
• Businesses are not fully functional.
