We would like to share with you the results of our “Renewed” Village Program and the six words that inspired us to make a change…. The SVdP Village was first established in 1987. The units making up the Village have housed many families over the years. However, homelessness 18 years ago is much different than homelessness today. When we first began the Village, giving shelter to homeless families was enough to help them get back onto their feet. Homelessness today is not merely caused by a lack of shelter, but involves a variety of underlying unmet physical, economic and social needs.
Today, the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Village is safe housing with structured programs that focus on breaking the cycle of poverty, improving lives, and promoting economic self-sufficiency. St. Vincent de Paul enhances its mission by working with the family as a complete unit. Therefore, every program that St. Vincent de Paul offers directly involves building healthy, safe communities in which children and families can thrive. The St. Vincent de Paul Village Program directly reflects the community that it serves which includes people of all creeds, ethnicities, and economic levels. St. Vincent de Paul Village aims to promote stable, committed, well trained and self-sufficient families upon exiting our program. We intend to provide training, education, and personal development opportunities which will transform these individuals and equip them with the confidence and skills they need to succeed. The St. Vincent de Paul Village has committed itself to collaborating with other organizations in an effort to provide services, in order to continue to serve those in need and help them with necessary tools to become economically self-sufficient before exiting St Vincent de Paul Village.
The primary goal of St. Vincent de Paul Village is to offer children and their family opportunities to enhance their self-worth with the character development traits of honesty, responsibility, accountability, respect, caring and faith. St. Vincent de Paul Village aims to promote stable, committed, well trained and self-sufficient clients upon exiting our program. We intend to provide training, education, and personal development opportunities which will transform these individuals and equip them with the confidence and skills they need to succeed. They will learn job readiness and occupational skills that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. St. Vincent de Paul Village believes that an entire body working together can form a strong, healthy community. Social services programs best accomplish their goals when they share energies and resources rather than trying to save the world single-handedly. For this reason, St. Vincent de Paul Village welcomes mutually beneficial collaborative efforts. All of this taking to heart the words of our Founder Blessed “Help then becomes honorable, because it may become mutual, because every man who gives a kind word, a good advice, a consolation today, may tomorrow stand himself in need of a kind word, an advice, or a consolation; because the hand that you clasp clasps yours in return; because that indigent family whom you love loves you in return, and will have largely acquitted themselves towards you when the old man, the mother, the little children shall have prayed for you.” St. Vincent de Paul Village The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (713)741-8234 |
