What is a Sponsor of Hope? Sponsors of Hope will help support: • Emergency Shelter for Homeless Families
On Monday, September 12, 2005, Bishop Grandin High School students began a four day blitz of fundraising entitled, “From Our Hearts to Your Hands”. The purpose of this drive was to raise money for the displaced New Orleans teenagers who were now living in Houston, Texas, as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The Houston School System was inundated with approximately 20,000 children who had no supplies or possessions. Imagining how difficult it would be to start school under these conditions, the Bishop Grandin Community, students and staff, decided to do something about this situation. Each teacher advisory group was given a brilliant yellow rubber glove representing the receiving hands of our fellow students in Houston, and the drive was on. The groups competed to see which one could stuff the most money in their glove. In some groups, staff matched the monies raised by their students. The winning students received a pizza party. The “Hands” were indeed stuffed over the four day period and we were able to send pictures and a cheque for $1296.41 to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in Houston with the request that it be directed to teens.
